Kolmar Korea said Thursday that its targeted anti-aging ingredient Tocopherol-Oxalate-Tocopherol (TOT) has received New Excellent Technology (NET) certification from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Re
Kolmar Korea said it has registered TOT under the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. The company said the registration allows TOT to be used in cosmetic products.
The company said it plans to combine TOT with its drug delivery system (DDS)-based smart liposome technology. The system encapsulates TOT in microscopic lipid-based carriers called liposomes.
Kolmar Korea said the DDS technology is designed
Kolmar Korea said the DDS technology is designed to deliver TOT to the dermis. The company plans to use the two technologies to develop a premium anti-aging cosmetics line.
The company said TOT is an antioxidant material that responds to hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). TOT releases vitamin E when it encounters H₂O₂ in the skin. Kolmar Korea said this allows the material to target a substance linked to skin aging instead of releasing its active ingredient continuously.
The company said TOT applies a principle used in targeted cancer therapy to cosmetics. Targeted therapies act on specific molecules involved in the growth and survival of cancer cells.
Kolmar Korea said TOT similarly responds to a specific substance associated with skin aging. Kolmar Korea developed TOT with a research team at Jeonbuk National University.
